Purple Sunset Cape Kiwanda
This is my favorite photo of the Oregon coast, the Purple Sunset Cape Kiwanda. I arrived in Pacific City, OR a few hours before sunset on a weekday, making this shot possible. On weekends the crowds in Pacific City can be huge, with people driving onto the beach and parking their cars only feet from the water. On this particular evening, numerous families had built campfires, with the smell of roasting hot dogs and marshmallows wafting over the beach. The tide was creeping further onto the beach, causing my tripod to sink into the sand and my shoes to get drenched. But when those blue and purple hues started to peek through the clouds, I knew it was going to be worth it. Knowing how to time the exposures as water washed onto and off the beach was challenging, and right as I captured this frame a rain storm started. After a day at the beach photographing the sunset, the perfect ending was a dinner of fish and chips at the famous Pelican Brewing Company.
